Lord Ganesha's birthday on Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturthi, with ten days of worship from sthapana to the grand visarjan on Anant Chaturdashi.
Ganesha, remover of obstacles and lord of beginnings, was born (or fashioned by Parvati) at midday on Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturthi, which is why the sthapana muhurat is Madhyahna, the midday period. The festival runs up to ten days, ending with immersion on Anant Chaturdashi.
Lokmanya Tilak turned the household festival into a public celebration in 1893. Maharashtra's pandals, Mumbai's Lalbaugcha Raja among them, remain its heart, with the three-day Jyeshtha Gauri worship woven into the same week.
